Rockford Day 3 Treatment Summary
7/24/2024
Day 3 summary at Rockford at the Orchards:
-The girls got a walk and ride.
-I arrived at 9:30.
-Check in process to determine the current condition and status of goals that were set for the previous day. My current condition was anxious--pretty common emotion for me. My main goal was to schedule an aftercare appointment. I was told this was going to be a complicated process, but I secured an appointment with just two phone calls. More importantly, but not related to the goals I was able to fend off being triggered by an electronic message by using my "wise brain" to recognize the content of the message was logical and accurate. I was able to comprehend the content & able to process the message without any type of irrational emotion. I got some claps from the crowd because of this action. Seems kind of basic and elementary but that's where I am.
-Reviewed how to apply the 5 love languages to self-love: how to love yourself. 1. Words of affirmation-talk positively about yourself. 2. Acts of service-health checkups, grooming, nutrition. 3. Receiving gifts-buy things you love. 4. Quality time meditation. 5. Physical touch--stretch your muscles.
Words of affirmation hit me hard because I have a habit of being self-deprecating. Repeating over and over under my breath that I'm a bad person.
-Learned about the cognitive behavior model. It's based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are constantly interacting and influencing one another. How we interpret or think about a situation determines how we feel about it, which then determines how we'll react.
-Created a safety crisis plan to define triggers, warning signs, coping skills, and goals for healthy behavior.
Key takeaway from day 3
Can't believe everything the anxious mind tells you.
Need to focus on self-love before I can love someone else.
Highlight:
Played a game where we threw a ball across the room. Each participant had to receive the ball one time but no more than one time and at the end the ball had to be returned to the person that started the rotation. We completed this exercise using 1 ball first, then introduced a second, and worked our way up to 5 balls being tossed around the room in the correct rotation. This was a good exercise demonstrating trust and showed how something as simple as a game can distract the brain from emotional trauma.
Goal
Develop a plan that focuses on mitigating the current stressor.
Schedule time on the calendar for a daily affirmation.
