Rockford Day 4 Treatment Summary
7/25/2024
Day 4 summary at Rockford at the Orchards:
-Up at 7:15 to take care of the girls.
-9:20 arrival early enough to turn in my disability paperwork.
-Check in process to determine the current condition and status of goals that were set for the previous day. Current condition calm. The goal to develop a plan to focus on mitigating the current stressor more than likely would have been accomplished had I not been an overachiever and attempted to execute the plan as well.
The goal to schedule time on the calendar for a daily affirmation was accomplished. No applause for me today but I'm still proud of myself.
-Defined C-PTSD or complex post-traumatic stress disorder and how it impacts our sense of self. It is a natural response to childhood experiences that involve: chronic anxiety, neglect, or danger within our closest relationships as opposed to PTSD which involves experiencing a single incident of trauma such as war or witnessing a violent crime. CTPSD creates a feeling and internalized belief that you are not good enough, broken in some way, and unsafe within the world. Could leave you with mood swings, isolation, the feeling of constantly being overwhelmed or that you don't belong anywhere. It impacts relationships in that the individual has abandonment or trust issues, is uncomfortable expressing him or herself, has anger issues, takes things personally, and overgives.
-Learned methods to ground oneself using the 5 senses. • Acknowledge 5 things that you can see around you.
• Acknowledge 4 things that you can touch around you.
• Acknowledge 3 things that you can hear around you.
• Acknowledge 2 things that you can smell around you.
• Acknowledge 1 thing that you can taste around you.
Grounding help you return to your body and center yourself after a stressful experience or thought.
-Reviewed thought for the day: Coping with families. Families may or may not be receptive to a son, daughter, parent, spouse, etc. reaching out for help. In 1970 there was a stigma attached to the term mental health that prevented people for reaching out for help and in some cases it still applies today. The thought suggested ideas about how a patient can manage this challenge.
Key takeaway from day 4
You are not broken. You've adapted to your environment.
Highlight:
Was introduced to another member of the group who graduated from Salesianum High. The current count is 3 alumni participating in the 12-person group session.
Goal
Fill out answers to the questions on the understanding of your past form. This is valuable for me because to heal from trauma, I have to understand my past. Some have painful past that even thinking about them can be overwhelming. Need to learn from the past to correct the present.
Concerns:
Recurrence of gout-related pain in the right foot that coincided with the administration of Abilify. I spoke to the doctor today and was relieved to find that the timing of the pain and meds is coincidental. No change in prescribed medications or doses.
Response
20 total hours of therapy and 4 doses of Abilify. No side effects from the medication. Mood continues to be excellent. Was told by my brother last night that he recognizes a significant change in my behavior.
Path forward publishing visit summaries.
Starting tomorrow I will begin to chronicle the learnings from therapy on a blog and then attach a link to Facebook. I think it's better to maintain a library of learnings in one easy database as opposed to Facebook where a search term would be less accessible. I have two active blogs already in circulation that I will link to.
